Description

YOUTH U.S. CAPITOL TOUR

During your week at CADCA's NYLI Training, you will learn the skills needed to truly make an impact in your communities around the drug issues. For those registered for the NYLI Advocacy & Policy Course, this allows you to see, first hand, the place where all your efforts make the most noise! The place where Congress meets.

The United States Capitol is a monument, a working office building, and one of the most recognizable symbols of representative democracy in the world. Unlike when you visit on Capitol Hill Day, this will be a guided tour where you get to see even more! The Youth Capitol Tour is SEPARATE from Capitol Hill Day that takes place on Wednesday, Feb 3rd. Capitol Hill Day is open to everyone attending the Leadership Forum!

We want as many of you to be able to go; however, we were only able to get so many tickets. All tickets are first come, first served and are ONLY for CADCA registered youth attendees. A few adult chaperones are needed, so if you're an interested adult please send me your name at nyli@cadca.org with subject line: YOUTH CAPITOL TOUR 2016.

CADCA will provide transportation for the tour scheduled for Feb 1, 2016 (Monday) at 3:00 PM. If you are registered, please meet Arilea Fernandez at 2:00 PM with your email confirmation at the Maryland Ballroom Entrance of the Gaylord Convention Center. Tours are expected to take one hour.

Space is limited! If we sell out of the 3PM tour, we do have 45 tickets for a 3:20PM tour but CADCA is unable to provide transportation for that tour. To get 3:20 pm tickets, go to this link http://320youthuscapitoltourcadcanyli.eventbrite.com

You may get there by taxi, uber (cheaper taxi service) or by metrorail. CADCA provides a shuttle from the Gaylord Hotel to the Eisenhower Metro Station (yellow line train). Take the train to Union Station Metro Stop. Additional info on riding the metro/subway, is avaiable at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority homepage www.wmata.com.

Getting to the Capitol by Subway

There are three subway stops found within walking distance of the Capitol:

  • Union Station – Located at First Street, NW, and Massachusetts Avenue.
  • Capitol South – Located at First Street between C and D Streets, SE.
  • Federal Center, SW – Located at the southwest corner of Third and D Streets, SW.

Additional information on riding the subway, which is called the Metro, is available at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority homepage www.wmata.com.

FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Visit the Capitol's website for prohibited items. https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/plan-visit/prohibited-items

What's the attire?

We advise everyone to dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

How long is the tour?

The tour is one hour in length. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the Capitol from the Gaylord.
